I stayed in Sunshine Hostal in March, which came recommended to me from a traveller in Bogota. Great location-- near metro line, in Poblado. It was new, as I understand, so there weren't too many people there and certainly didn't have the party vibe that some hostals have, but it was a reasonable price and very well-maintained. The owner is a young Israeli guy who was very willing to help plan day-trips in the area- very knowledgeable. Have fun!

I stayed in Tiger Paw. Did the job. Had it's own bar downstairs, but was pretty quiet. Very safe and clean and close to Zona Rosa. Very easy to get around in Medellin on the metro, so wouldn't worry too much about location.

Lovely city. Haven't heard any really bad things about any of the hostels.
