Hi there,
We are 2 girls going through a mid life crisis apparently (!), and are planning a life-changing spiritual experience for 3 months 😊
we'd like to start in Columbia in mid september, be there for 3 weeks, then travel overland down to Peru and travel Peru for 3 weeks (including Inca trail), then travel down to Lake Titicaca and over into Bolivia and do the salt flats, etc for 2 weeks... then down into Argentina for 3 weeks... (Iguazu and Buenos Aires etc) and then over into Brazil for 2 weeks and then home mid December! Dates are not flexible unfortunately.
We know we're cramming alot in, but does anyone have any advice on what are the best sites not to be missed in Columbia, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and East coast of Brazil? Does anyone have any idea of budget? We reckon we can do it all including the main return flight for a total of £3-£3.5K.... any ideas??
What kind of things will we need that doesnt get supplied on trips? I.e. do we need to bring our own tent for when we do trips into the jungles?? We know we have to get our own hiking boots of course, but other than the standard rain macs etc.. what else is a must for travel in south america in general?
Will it be hot everywhere? We read that mostly it is hot in all places we plan to go to, but we'll need jumpers etc for the evenings and perhaps rain...
How much time do we need to allow for travel (boats/buses/trains etc) between countries?
Has anyone done this trip route before?
Any advice on anything at all would be very welcome 😊
Reply to this Hey there ladies some travel advice....
South America can be very dangerous for two ladies. I am a Colombian born girl who has been there throughout her life. I reckon read as much as possible. Yes bring waterproof clothing as it is rain forest, bring warm climate and cool climate clothing. Try to dress down and blend in with the people.
Colombia is beautiful the coastline is magical and the old ruins of Cartagena are amazing. Do not travel obliviously though, and yes the travel between countries can takes days. Long bus rides through South America are a must. I recommend settling somewhere and finding a tour guide (a local) they can keep you safe and take you to the best attractions. All the best.
