I'm starting a year in SA at the end of the month. I'm flying into Buenos Aires and out of Santiago.
Will be stating off studying Spanish for approx 3 months in BA, before heading North through Bolivia, Peru, Equador and Columbia to Venzuela. I have decided to spend the last 2-3 months in or around Patagonia and will probably fly South after the journey. However I'm not sure that 6-7 months is enough time to make the journey North, as I don't want to be tooooo rushed. I have been to Peru before so can skip certain attractions there. Can anyone advise? If I don't have enough time I might have to consider picking a few arears and flying between them. It's funny, I thought a year would be ages, but as soon as it comes to planning I've started to realise, it's not at all.
I know it seems a bit crazy coming back to Argentina and flying out of Chile, but it's becuase I've missed the good weather for this year in patagonia and I don't have enough air miles to get to New Zealand if I fly from anywhere else in SA.
Also I'm budgeting for approx £10k spending money, but slightly concerned it won't be enough. The language school etc. in BA will be expensive and I'm expecting to spend £4-5k in BA in 3 months, leaving £5-6k for the rest of the trip, is that rather conservative? At 27 I feel a bit old to be staying in lots of dorms and will generally like my own space, I'm also not in the habbit of trying to watch the pennies, although this will have to change.
