Memory Card Error - Memory Card Locked - this error came up on our camera whilst holidaying throughout Europe. We since have not been able to use the SDHC memory card and our computer doesn't even recognise the memory card.

There are 2 weeks of travel photos form Europe on that memory card and basically we want to know whether it is possible to recover these photos? I would be totally devastated and cannot bare to lose all those photos!! All i have been told is that it might be an input/output error (????)

Thanks or your help!

Sorry to hear about your memory card problems. Another forum post, How to Rescue Photos might help you out.

I've recovered photos before using certain software programs, but never had the specific error you've mentioned. I might be worth looking into though. Hopefully someone else with more experience/expertise in this area will chime in.

Get hold of another memory card just in case - they're cheap enough to get them.

The only time I've seen this error is when the card is locked - there is a small white plastic tab on the left side of the card - it should be pushed forward. If this is the case - then there is something more serious wrong - don't do anything with the card - other than follow the steps in How to rescue photos from a formatted or damaged memory card. (as posted by Sn'A above)

Hope that helps! Reply to this

If the memory card is not recognized in the PC or it is impossible to access the data on it, the controller on the card is damaged. There is only one way to get the data back, unsolder memory chips and directly access their raw data with a programable chip reader. Software can't help, that is a physical damage! Have a look at: Memory Stick SD card photo recovery

I took a closer look at my little SD memory card. It has a sliding lock on it to protect data. Check to see if the card works when you slide that lock up or down. You have nothing to lose. Providing you have a lock.

I haven't use a lock on a recording device since I was using floppy disks!

Good luck. Reply to this

Corrective fixes for "memory card error" AND "memory card locked" error messages may be found at the following Do It Yourself camera repair website. These simple fixes work for most memory card issues, and none of these techniques involve opening the camera case.

My memory card got corrupted and I tried all kinds of software but to no avail. So I sent it to Recoverfab, a lab in Germany. And within a couple of hours of them getting my mail, they sent me an email with samples of my photos. It was absolutely incredible and I must say the guys are really very helpful and friendly. If you need any help, you can find them at http://card-recovery.biz/us/service.php. Reply to this

Hello,
This type of error message appears in the screen due to corruption in the memory card.

In order to complete photo recovery successfully you need stop accessing the hard drive immediately after photos have been deleted.

Now in order to restore the damaged photos you need to make use of third party camera recovery tool. This application makes use of advanced algorithms in order to complete the scanning process and displays the preview of all the damaged photos. You can restore the selective photos as well as all the lost photos safely.
