Hey,

We are currently in Bolivia and so far havenīt taken any malaria tablets. As far as we gather here, its only in the Amazon jungle, on the Brazil side that actually has malaria. We did visit the jungle here in Bolivia, but the people there said they hadnīt had malaria present in Bolivia for over 50 years. The NHS website (www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk) says that there is malaria present here, but noone else we have met since we came here have taken malaria tablets. The website above also tells you about all the other countries you are visiting.

Hope this helps

Hi James. My understanding is that it's only REALLY a problem if you're going to be in the Amazon, but I would read through the CDC's webpage Malaria Information for Travelers. There really are mosquitoes everywhere that I was in Peru, but according to the site, there is no risk of malaria infection in and around Lima, as well as the highland tourist areas (Cuzco, Machu Picchu, etc.). I spent a few days in the Amazon basin and so picked up malaria medication for that portion of the trip.

Hope this is helpful to you - I think the site will really give you the most information.
