Swimming in Africa

Is is safe to swim in rivers, lakes and the sea? Does anyone have any bad experiences to describe?

don't try to swimm in the river in the south africa. The best place is the pool in the hotel. I thing in the ocean it's also safe but not sure. Anybody knows something? Reply to this

Swimming in the sea is safe in most places in South Africa most are patroled by live savers if you do what they request you will be ok however rivers are a different prospect and most are not recommended Reply to this

Sea is fine. near beach towns/cities they put up flags to show where the dangerous currents are. most places have shark nets too (just in case). Reply to this

Hello Duglas :)

When I was on an island in Uganda I was sitting at the edge of the lake dangling my feet in the water. A Ugandan man came along and told me that I shouldnt do that there because he say a snake under the rock that was right beside my feet yesterday. So I suppose snakes as well as other things like picking up parasites has to be considered. I would avoid swimming where the locals wont.
