3 weeks December honeymoon in South Africa
15 years ago, June 9th 2008 No: 1 Msg: #37904
Hello
We are spending 3 weeks in South Africa on our honeymoon and would really welcome some advice on places to go and stay. We fly into Capetown and out of J'bourg 3 weeks later.

We are thinking of something like:

4 days in Capetown
2 days in Wine Region (not sure whether Stellenbosch or Franschhoek)
3/4 days Garden Route
Fly Capetown to Kruger
2 days Sabie (Blyde River etc)
5 days Kruger (this would be over Christmas - start in private reserve to get good advice and then travel up north to rest camps)
Drive to J'Borg
3 days around J'Borg (or possiblity of fly in to Vic Falls - but not sure about this given what is going on in Zimbabwe at the moment)

Any other ideas would be welcome. We are going to a beach (this is our bit of luxury so want to keep the costs down in S Africa if we can) after that so some relaxing at the start of the holiday and then some activity (walking, cycling would be good). Other areas we are thinking about is Kgalagadi and Kimberley, Drakensberg (and perhaps tour into Lesotho) and lots more.... it is so hard to decide!!

Thinking as it is the holiday season we probably need to book soon.

Thanks Bryan!!

If anyone else has advise on how to spend the 20 days that would be great. We are heading to Mauritius after so that will give us our fill of the beach.

Hi Honey, I'm sure you're over the moon! Congrats.

Although you want to relax, I'd suggest having a look at some really interesting adventure activities: so look at may doing a horse safari, or a quad bike safari, there's also great abseiling and zip lining over the Tsitsikamma waterfalls.

It's so great that you're going to Africa for your honeymoon, really original. I hope the rest of your lives are as adventurous.

I hope you have a super time!

Happy journeying. Reply to this

Hi Honeymooner,

A honeymoon in Cape Town is a fantastic idea. My canadian cousin recently had his honeymoon down here, and they had an incredible time. Your itinerary sounds good, but maybe go for an extra day in Cape Town, and one less day in Kruger. There is so much to do in Cape Town iteself. Have a look at for more information on activities, accommodation, internal flights, and more

A flight to JHB would be preferable to driving, its a long way 😉

Please contact me direct if you have any questions?

Jim
