Reply to this I just left Tanzania last week, and visited Ngorongoro Crater - it was just sensational. I know other people that visited Lake Manyara, but they were a trifle disappointed. The Serengeti is supposed to be amazing too, but you need to invest some time there (2 days minimum).
The cheapest way to organise tours is just to turn up in Arusha and fight off the touts and find a good deal. The tourist office has a notice board where a single traveller can join a group. To give you an idea of price, I asked in Nairobi what it would cost me for a return trip from Nairobi to the Crater, which would include 2 nights accommodation away, and they told me $1,200! However, by organising my own transport to Arusha and scouring the tour companies there, I completed the same trip for under $300.
FYI, most people only do Moshi if climbing Mt Kili, though it is a nice place to stay as I've been told. If you took Moshi out and also deleted Lake Manyara (though most people only stop for half a day anyway), you should be able to do everything you wish comfortably in a week and at a nice relaxed pace. Be aware though that most tour companies in Arusha include Lake Manyara in their itineraries. I organised a discount by not going on the Lake segment, and independently took a cultural tour of a village instead whilst the others were off on their Lake tour.
Reply to this Dear The Travel Camel,
Thank you very much for your help and your advices .. I think it's very useful to me. Now i will ignore Lake manyara and iam not going to Moshi. Will do the Ngorongoro Crater and will check Serengeti. Thanks to you dude.
How about the Camps for the Safari ?? Is it safe Enough?! i dont want any Lion to jump on my tent, hehe.
Reply to this Hi,
Will be in Serengeti and Ngorngoro for few days from 3rd of august...when are you going? After that going to Zanzibar...
Reply to this Hi Pa Leslie,
I will be there "HOPEFULLY" by mid of August , if there is no changes. Enjoy your trip.
Reply to this Hi Searchneo,
Thanks for your advice ,, but for me i think 10 days it's too much as i have a short holiday and got few places to cover .. thanks again.
Reply to this Hello again Ray
I am unsure about Serengeti, but you cannot camp on the Crater floor, the only options are hideously expensive lodges at the ridge. If you stay a bit away from the park (as in half an hours drive) prices drop dramatically.
Camping in parks is only allowed in designated areas, if you have a Lonely Planet guide, it details them all, but again, they can cost you big $$$$. Unfortunately, I cannot help you much more with the Serengeti as I did not travel there.
Reply to this Alright The Travel Camel ,,,
I think this is more then enough .. Thank you very much for your help =)
Reply to this Hello Ray
It is very simple and cheap to camp in Serengeti National Park, all camping sites in Serengeti are completely safe, there is no need of worrying. No lion is going to jump into your tent. I am saying this because I have a quite a lot of experience in Tanzanian national parks, an experience of more than 15 years, so i can advice accordingly. Do not hesitate to ask for more information. Thanks

Reply to this Hey, I just got back from working in Tanzania for about a year in Arusha. I agree with showing up and just organizing it from there
Reply to this OK, for everyone visiting Tanzania if you really intend to see the wildlife, then Serengeti might be the best place for you.
but of course they will show you the animals excluding the plants, seriously! but to my opinion , plant life is beautiful too, just try to observe it although it needs a keen mind of concepts.
Reply to this I'm plannig to travel to Tanzania, my idea it's climb kilimanjaro, three days of safary and 4-5 days in zanzibar. I've seen that that fligth to Dar es salaam it's cheaper than Kilimanjaro. Someone know what it's the best way to go from dar es salaam airport to city center and take the bus tu Arusha?
