Cheaters in Gondor

Be careful with cheaters in Gonder. Contact with agencies or trustable people.

Gonder is a very nice town in the north of Ethiopia, relatively close to the Simien Mountains. If you plan to use Gondor to visit the mountains, don't trust non official guides, they will try to offer cheap transportation and guides, but the roads are for 4WD, good drivers who know where to buy the tickets an rent the scouts, etc.

You can contact Bedasa (everybody knows him in the town), I will send his email and phone number if you want to travel there. He is a very trustable and professional person and will arrange almost any travel-related thing.

I don't want to do an advertisment, only to advise people because we got cheated and don't want anybody else to suffer such a bad experience (wait for 3 hours for a horse car bringing a weel for our minibus). Thank heavens we knew a very nice group of children in the country side between Gonder and Debark. They appreciate very much empty bottles, because they have nothing. Reply to this

Hi Mandy,

when are you planning to go to Ethiopia?
Today I cannot give you the contact because we are in Ghana, we left the agenda at home in Spain. Maybe we have that contact in the house where we are living here in Ghana, but we will have to return to get it. If we find it, I will write again with the contact. But you can get there and ask for Bedasa.

We went to Ethiopia for 3 weeks and it was very intensive, it is a large country and the transportation is slow, roads, specially in the north, are very bad. We went in the rainy season, we had no choice, but it's better to go in October or November.

The Simien mountains are spectacular, seeing the Gelada Baboons worth the effort, if you like nature. Also the lake Tana, and the waterfalls (Tis Isat) are a must. You can see churches, the best in our opinion (we didn't visit Lalibela, so we have no opinion) is the Debere Berhan Salessie Church, in Gonder. There you can see also the Royal Enclosure.

One advice: don't try to see too much in a short time, distances are larger that they seem. The Bahar Dar - Gonder area is very very interesting in our opinion. And don't trust people coming just when you get down the bus.

And we hope you like the Enjera 😉 Reply to this
