I arrived in Mancora at 9.15am on Tuesday 9 February after my 27 hour journey from Nazca. The hotel that I reserved would not allow me to check in early so I walked around and found a decent room somewhere else for a fifth of the price. It was only 20 seconds from the beach and I could check in straight away and have a shower. Then I went for a walk along the beach and headed back to my room along the main road. The afternoon was spent in my room watching football and then on the roof terrace of the hotel reading my book and catching some very strong sun (even at 6pm). After a shower I went for a nice steak dinner and a cool refreshing beer before retiring to my room for an early night. On Wednesday morning I went for breakfast on the beach and there were a lot of surfers already in the water. Then I went on the internet for a while until the clouds cleared and the sun was shining and then I was ready to hit the beach. I stayed for a couple of hours but the sun was so strong so
I decided to go back to my room for a cold shower and to watch football. After another couple of hours on the internet, I went for dinner and then returned to my room to watch basketball. Breakfast on the beach again on Thursday and then some more internet action as I was trying to update my blog. Back to the room for another refreshing cold shower and then off to the beach for a couple of hours. Then I needed an ice lolly and a litre of orange juice before going back to my room for another cold shower. The evening was spent sorting out my bus to Ecuador and accommodation for when I arrived. Then I went for dinner before returning to my room to watch TV. At 10am on Friday, I went to the roof terrace of the hotel to sunbathe as there were no clouds this morning. However, I could only last an hour as it was so hot and I probably lost a couple of pounds in sweat. Then I had a cold shower, packed my stuff and checked out at 1pm. For lunch I had a delicious pancake filled with peach, banana and pineapple
that came with a side of fruit ice cream. This was washed down with a mango juice and a frozen peach drink - AMAZING!! Since my bus to Ecuador was not until 9pm, I spent the day in the internet shop and then went for dinner where I had a delicious tuna steak, freshly caught that day. Then I returned to my hotel to collect my backpack and took a motor taxi to the bus stop. The bus left at 9.30pm and we reached the Ecuador border at 11pm. We jumped off the bus to get our exit stamps from Peru and after 15 minutes we were on our way again. A short time later we stopped again, this time to get our entry stamps into Ecuador. We got off the bus and had to stand in the rain on the roadside until the line of people declined enough so that we could get undercover. The line was going really slowly and it was clear that this would take longer than 15 minutes. After 90 minutes I was very close to the one window that they had open when the line stopped moving and I could overhear that there systems
had gone down. So while most of the people were back on my bus with their stamps, I was standing outside in puddles and being eaten by mosquitos. I could not leave the line as I would lose my place and so I just had to stand on the spot for four and a half hours until I finally got my stamp at 4am. Back on the bus everyone was sound asleep and I found my way back to my seat in the dark. I fell straight to sleep but was woken again half hour later by a guy in armed uniform shouting. I woke from such a deep sleep and was so scared for a second as I did not know what was going on. We all got off the bus again as our bags were checked for drugs. Needless to say I was so relieved when we finally arrived in Guayaquil at 9am.
