Current Location: Huanchaco Beach (15km outside Trujillo), Peru If there has been one city/town in Peru that I have really fallen in love with, it would have to be Huanchaco Beach. So far my travels have taken me to many places but as of yet, I have not come across a more enjoyable and friendly community. (And the weather is hard to beat) The past few days have been all sunshine. It is actually getting a little hard to remember just what rain feels like. (I´ll be reminded probably seconds after stepping back into Port Angeles) The town is divided basically into three distinct parts. The far southern end is where the market is, along with several small bodegas (very basic grocery stores), and the towns only bank. If you want to live for cheap in ... read more

Peru so far has been an adventure to say the least. Getting into Peru from Ecuador ended up being an easy boarder cross and quite humorous looking back. We caught a bus that was 'direct' but before we got to the boarder the three of us had to get off the bus and recieve our exit stamps. Lucky for us a bus personale came with us, because after getting our stamps we turned around and the bus (with our backpacks) had driven away. The bus personale, wearing a bullet proof vest, ushered us into a taxi, we drove for about 10 minutes until we found the bus and the bus driver in a Peruvian town eating dinner. Another five minutes down the road we had to climb off the bus and recieve our entrance stamps, this ... read more

After an uneventful drive from Huaraz (have you noticed a pattern with regard to the drive days?) we arrived in Huanchaco last night where we are camping on the roof of a hotel. As usual, we faffed about for ages deciding which of the 2 restaurants to eat in before plumping for the Mexican. After eating we went for a drink in the town's only bar where we played Connect 4 and pool, both of which I was pony at. The next day we visited Chan Chan, the largest adobe (mud, basically) ruins in the world, which was actually more interesting than it seemed, not least because the tour guide was like someone's nan, she was that cute. Steve wanted to keep her, but we decided that wouldn't be fair on her real grandchildren. From Chan ... read more
