AMAZON DAY 4 - Returning to Cusco
Sunday, August 22nd

We woke up very early to have breakfast and be ready for our return to Atalaya by boat, then to Cusco by minivan. Unfortunatley, the boat guys got their wires crossed and we didn't actually leave until after 8:30am. When we arrived in Atalaya, our trusty minivan driver was waiting for us and assured us we'd be back in Cusco by 5pm. He was right, but the ride was worse than it was on the way here, I think because he was trying to hurry, on those horrendous, scarey roads! We made a couple of "stretch your legs" stops, plus one for lunch where our "new" guide (Jamie stayed with a couple that arrived the day after us) fed us a delicious lunch of chicken, rice, egg, and veggies, cooked in a sort of philadenron leave from the jungle. We arrived in Cusco just after 4:30pm and checked back into our hostal, Hosteleria de Anita. After sorting out our luggage and getting it more or less repacked for the trip home, we tried without success to reach Star Peru to verify our flight the next morning at 6am. We ended up doing some last minute shopping for folks back home, then stopped to eat at Don Cefalin (sp). Manoli had a salad with lots of avacodo and I had ravioli al fredo with a creamy mushroom sauce. After dinner, it was back to the hostal to catch a few winks before or 4am wake up for our 6am flight from Cusco to Lima.
