Cusco
The city center... Well after 6 days and 4 buss journeys of 10 hours+ across the center of the Andes, ahh poor Sarah and Jason I hear you all cry... We have finally landed in Cusco to check out the center of the old Inca Empire. The town is one of the more beautiful places we have stayed, but also one where you get hassled the most.
The city is considered to be the longest inhabited locations in all of South America. The Spaniards built directly on top of the old Inca city, and this has made for the most interesting colonial architecture centers yet. Lots of narrow cobbled streets and buildings built on top of Inca walls. Also this is one of the main tourist spots in all of Peru and therefore some great pubs and food places. Finally had a Guiness after 3 months.
There are just too many ruins to list each individually but the best site so far has been Saqsaywaman (known by us whites as SexyWoman) just 35 mins from downtown. It is so hard to describe what has been done here. The rocks are worked to such fine detail that we could not even put a

The best site so far slip of paper between them. And the complexity is hard to describe. Check the photos and you’ll have some idea of what I mean.
Of course one of the main reasons we came to Cusco is the very famous ruins of Machupicchu. Of course everyone has heard of the famous 4 day hike called “The Inca Trail” but it is now so popular that they have limited the numbers and also you have to book 35 days in advance. So even though we know that people have dropped out they cannot be replaced! Weird, but it does mean that we have had to find an alternative, and my have we found one. We ran into an American guy who has organized an 8 day, yes 8 days 7 nights, trek through what is called the “The Inca Road” it is an alternative route that takes in 4 other large unexplored sites and is thought to be part of the original route through the Andes. Put this time we have donkeys, cooks, guides even a dinning table (little extravagant, but it is 7 nights!!!) and all we have to carry is water and snacks. So from 25 kilos to a

Howdid they do it! day pack, we should be fine! We are due to leave tomorrow morning so will update in 9 days!
