The Equator and Pulula Hua Volcano
We got up at 8:00 and had bfast at the hostel then we walked down to the metro bus station and got the bus to Ofelia then we got on to a new bus to Mitad Del Mundo were the Equator line is. We had a bit of a look around the fake line then we took a tour to Pulula Hua Volcano which is active volcano but about 100 people live in the crater of it. There is even a small primary school with 12 students in the crater. There were lots of school students walking down and up to the town when we were there. It is about a 1.4 km walk but straight down. There is a road in but the locals do not use it only for emergency’s they walk in and out. The school teacher walks in and out each day as well. There is a hostel were you can stay overnight in the. In the last 5 years there has been more volcanic movement but the last time it erupted was 134 years ago. After that we went to the GPS Equator line were we
learnt about the people who live in the area and got to see a real shrunken head and were shown how they made them. We could also buy fake shrunken head’s if we wanted to. We got to see the spears houses and burial chambers of the locals as well as do some tricks on the Equator line like seeing water go straight down and spin both ways either side of the Equator. We got to walk with our eye closed along the Equator line where it is supposed to be harder to balance, I had no problems balancing but everyone else did. Then we had lunch in a local restaurant and got the two busses back home. The return bus tickets cost up $0.80 us each. The entrance tickets and trip did not cost a lot as well. On the way home we got some pastries for dinner and bfast tomorrow.
