Volcan Chimborazo
Today we headed towards the Volcan Chimborazo. I was keeping my fingers crossed that the clouds would disappear by the time we got there so we could enjoy a view of this impressive volcano, which at 6310m is the highest peak in Ecuador. On the way we stopped at a small trains tation to enjoy some Coca tea to help us acclimatise to the high altitude. At the station we were able to watch a vegetable ivory carver at work and parted with yet more money for souvenirs. Dad and I will need a another suitcase to bring back all our purchases!

After lunch we headed to a local school supported by Explore for the last 9 years called San Paulo. There were 40 children of different ages and 4 staff (two paid and two volunteers). It was lovely to see the kids and they sang a few songs for us. In turn we gave them some donations towards a school trip. Over the years Explore has donated goods such as wellies, a fridge and a computer and it is the only school in Ecuador where the children are actually given lunch. Many of the kids get sent to the

school just so they can get a meal each day. Anyway, I couldn't resist the temptation to get up and sing a few songs with the children with the help of Simone. I did the Moose song and the Llama song which I had learnt from my time in the states and the kids loved it. It was great fun and they didn't want me to stop but I was exhausted singing and dancing at such high altitude. It was definitely a highlight of the trip for me and I enjoyed playing footie with the boys and watching them queue up to look through Richard's binocular's!

By the time we reached Volcan Chimborazo the clouds parted and the blue sky came out and we were treated to a wonderful glimpse of the volcano! We were very lucky as it is often hidden by the clouds and it was wonderful to see some vicunas grazing in the vegetation in front. A wonderful day in a wonderful country!
