This place is called Monaco. Escobar lived here with three other family members and it was bombed by the Cali cartel. It has been unoccupied for over 20 years.

This is a holy shrine where the Virgin Mary was reported to have appeared over 100 years ago. Paula took us here to illustrate the perverse relationship between cruel people and the Catholic religion - many cartel members would come here to pray for safety while they were causing so much harm.

The damaged bird sculpture and the new one side-by-side. Botero refused to allow the damaged one to be removed after the bombing. Instead, he made a new one to be placed beside it. On it is a plaque with the names of the 23 victims.

Escobar's family plot. This is a cemetery for the rich and there are rules regulating tombstones. Even then, it looks as if an exception was made for Escobar as his family tombstones are set apart from the rest and are more elaborate.

Close up on Escobar's tombstone. It is reportedly the second most visited grave in Latin America after Eva Peron's.
