typical street We woke up early so that we could pack up to head to Valparaiso. Last night before bed, we looked at our Delta flights home and saw we were no longer on the upgrade list. Shelly had checked multiple times before we left to make sure we were on it. So this morning she called Delta (in Chile – but really in Atlanta). We were on the phone for about an hour and the “supervisor” said we should be on the list then after talking with others realized Delta changed the rules a few months back that you couldn’t be upgraded to the lie flat seats. Well, Shelly pulled her magic and I think the supervisor realized we had been given bad information multiple times and we had had an option of using upgrade coupons Shelly (in December) used on other flights. So, he rebooked us in business class. Yea!!!!. How does she do it?
The driver then picked us up and drove us to the bus station where we caught a bus to Valparaiso. It took us about 1.5 hours to get here. We then took a taxi to the hotel. Valparaiso is not what I thought

Our boat and the Cool ship behind it. it would be. The pictures made me think it was a small fishing village/port. It’s a large fishing town/port and tons of hills. There are funiculars and elevators all over the place. It is very hilly. There is a lot of graffiti on the walls but it’s artistic graffiti and looks cool. After checking in at the hotel (we have a balcony that overlooks the bay and there is a roof top deck), we got a map and went down to the small port where you can get a boat ride out into the bay. This way you can see the city from the water. There were about 25 other people on the boat but it was enjoyable. The weather is about 20 degrees cooler here than in Santiago so we had to have jackets on for the boat ride.
After that we road one of the funiculars up and started our way back to the hotel. We got so lost, but it’s because there are multiple roads with the same name and it’s all hilly so where you think you’re back tracking on yourself, the road is just climbing the hill. We learned later that there

View from the boat were upper and lower streets (why some had the same name but if you got on one and thought you were on the other, you can get really lost). We finally asked and found our way back. Judith at the front desk made dinner reservations for us and we headed to dinner later. It was a great dinner and the waiter was a lot of fun. He said my name in Spanish was Clarita.
We came back home and had a glass of wine out on the deck and covered up in a blanket. Then we crashed and headed to bed.
