South American football at its best Cola Cola vs Palestino
Last night Giss and I were lucky enough to catch a football match at Santiago´s National Football stadium and what a match it was! We were actually heading elsewhere when I noticed some cars go by with football flags hanging from them. We were quick to learn that a final between two of Santiago´s teams - (Cola Cola and Palestino) was about to start so we quickly jumped into a cab and headed to the ground hoping we could score tickets. Santiago´s National Stadium is also where Kylie played a few weeks ago and Madonna packed it out only last week.

Before we had even entered the arena the sound from the fans was awesome! There were flares and fire works going off as well as some heavy duty hoses cooling down the crowds from the heat. There were so many fire works going off that you couldn´t even see the players on the field in amongst the smoke! Of course a South American football match would not be right without herds of riot police just in case of trouble. In the first 20 minutes Palestino received two red cards so were forced to play with only 9 players. Their

goal keeper was one of the players to be kicked off and it wasn´t until after 10 minutes of arguing with the referee that he actually left the field. It was increadible!!!

At this stage Cola Cola (who are not sponsored by Coke) were leading 0-1 and they would take it away but in the last 2 minutes Palestino evened the score and it was a draw. The next final is to take place next week.

The energy of the crowd was crazy as they went wild with chanting and jumping up and down. Meanwhile, the Cola Cola fans stood in disbelief. As I had imagined we watched the game through a wire fence and it was interesting to see the distance placed between the supporters from each team.

It was a game with all the drama and spectical I expected and I know the photos just won´t do it justice. They really are passionate about their football over here and I hope to get to see another match in Buenos Airies when I´m there.
