¨Life is not measured by the amount of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.¨
So from Puerto Montt took the bus plus boat to the island of Chiloe, reaching the capital Castro. The town was really wellcoming, and the hotel even more. These Chileans are real sweeties. I am getting more and more disgusted with the leaders here for what they have done to this wonderful people. Anyway, this aside, I had the plan to stay in Castro for 2 days and then move on to other places on the island. But no. I can´t. I enjoyt the place a lot. The hotel is so nice and the host, as i said, a kind of Doda (aunt) Daliah. With her brother, sort of husband, nephews and a grandmother of someone, who all work here. Tova, Dani, this gives me inspiration :-)
This is now also the start of just moving, without having all those amazing natujre wonders like the waterfalls, the Glaciers, the penguins...So no hurry!
Ten Ten
The second day here i went walking to an island near, Ten Ten. Beautiful route, reminds a bit of Toscana or south france. On the way
Castro lanscape
During trek, the other side of the water sat at a deserted beach with two lizards to accompany me, and opened Marco´s present for me, a book of the Iranian Abdel Kadir something (will feel in the name later if i dont forget...). The book is kind of 1001 nights, but even deeper and more entertaining. This is really a must. So Marco, thank you so much for this jewel. I´m sure I can use it in my voyage at som less easy moments! So read a bit, and then climbed up the hills, and down again, and back to Castro.
Rilan
Third day was time for the bicycle. I didnt know what I got into. What a bloody heally road! 35 km to Tilan, and than another back. But was worth for sure. Such horrific downhill roads that i almost got afraid riding them (but i did of course). It felt like driving down 100 km an hour! Downhill meant of course the uphill - dios!!! Well, i walked some of them if u dont mind...The village itself was like 30 houses, one restaurant, and it apeared to be a fiesta for one or other Virgin, so was a little market. After biking i deserved a nice
Up and down in Chiloe
That was tough, i tell you! But beautiful and thrilling in the downward parts (I did get off the bike sometimes!! :-) meal, so went to the (only) restaurant). Well, full. But, there was this cute old couple who immediately insisted i should come and sit with them,, as there was a free chair. I also immediately got some of their food, with no place to say no. Well, a bit different than Holland or Israel, isnt it? So we talked a bit, their granchild lives in Paris. An actress...They have a hostel in Castro, and it appears, very close to mine. Of course i had to promise i will come along the day after, which i will indeed do today.
Castro
The rest: Some nice street acts, the weather is just good, not too hot for my sporty activities, and sunny in intervals. The view from the hotel is gorgious and breakfast is more than the argentinian bread and butter and jam...even had avocado salad for breakfast yesterday! Had met a dutch guy at the hostel, who works for my compnany´s mother, Cap Geminy, so we cooked together and with him and another french guy wondered a bit in the streats. Yesterday treated myself to a bit of luxury; a restaurant more or less in the water, around 8:00 pm so
sunset time (dark at 10:00 pm here). Had a salad and a great grilled fish, and two beers (yes, two!) and watched the boats and the beautiful colours changing in the water and in the peninsula in front.
Today really doing nothing. Have cancelled going to another town. Going to enjoy the book, visit the oldies, and catch some more street acts. Tomorrow to Valdivia, 7 hours ride to the north. Am supposed to be picked up at the terminal by a guy living at the seaside with 2 dogs and a cat, doing environmental-social stuff, and likes to sit at the fire in his small garden...from this exchange programm i found on internet. If u dont hear from me anymore, you know who did it, the only question will be why...!! Well, not to alarm you, he is a fun of Diamanda Galas, so he must be a very sweet person!
Hasta luego for now!
Curico de something...
OK just going to put this on internet, some corrections....didnt go to Lucy and Hernan, shame on me...went to a small island, now by bus, half an hour, and was so happy to encounter the black neck swans. Saw them already
somewhere on the way, but just from far, and only a few. Now it was raining swans! The bay itself was beautiful, and sat there for hours. In the evening met a Chilean couple, 20 years old, at the hotel. The boy had a palestinian backgraound, his grandmother, but was not really into the subject, said he was Chilean, and that is that. Of course we discussed the subject a bit. Anyway, Such a cute couple, a kind of Tomer and Hadas. Went with them to a pub, my first night out since started travelling. Was real fun, learned alot about Chile and its history, the social system, and survived a rain of spanish...Came home at 2 in the morning. Dont tell mama...
Got to catch a bus (today ¨only¨ 7 hours drive..). Ciao, Uri.
