Yesterday we arrived on an all day bus trip from Curritiba, almost 5pm, at the long distance bus terminal in down down Florianopolis. and nothing planned. The girl in the tourist information centre was totally unhelpful and almost needed a cattle prod to move away from her computer and engage with us. We had been in the office for around 10minutes looking at maps, brochures and trying to work out what to do before she spoke and we realised she was an employee.
The city itself is the capital of the state of Santa Catarina and is high rises and a mass of people. She suggested to look at the island which is Santa Catarina, either the north, east or south aspects. She recommended east so we walked to the A bus terminal 2 blocks down and caught the 330 bus off platform A into Lagoa da Conceicao and got off at Terminal C. This is a little town on the lake, think Noosa sunshine coast 1980 and you have this place, hippy, laid back, beaches, surf, hostels, and a great mix of people enjoying life.
So again where to from here? We just walked around and found a
hotel Don Zepe, top of my price range at 195Rials for a room but this included a full breakfast for 2 people, wifi and inner town location. What a lovely place, 24 hour check in, hotel staff that helped us sort out a load of laundry, suggested places and worked for their money.
Last night we ate out at Beer and Books which is a craft beer paradise with books to read eveywhere and food, all overlooking the marina. We wandered along the bridge towards the direction of Barra la Logoa, very safe, loads of walkers and people fishing.
This morning we gorged on a breakfast which included German rolls and cheese and salami, local fruits, yoghurt, toast, cereal, cooked, cake, you name it. What didn't we have is more the question.
The area near the bridge and the little market square hosted an organic food market this morning as well as selling other bits and pieces such as jewellery. This area is full of vegan, hippy, organic, tree huggers! Wandering around the water front we watched the locals launch their jetskis, sat in the sun and then collected our laundry.
Lunch was at the Food
Truck Parking Lot. 10 foodvans are arranged in a rectangle, chairs and lounges placed in the middle under a shed like structure, add a skate board park, loud music and great food and you have a brilliant concept.
The 360 bus for less than 10rials took us to the top of the Barra da Logoa which is basically the canal from the lake out to the Atlantic ocean , past Praia Mole surfing beach.
This area is full of hotels and restaurants, the best one being near the mouth of the canal. Go over the blue pedestrian bridge and there is a place right at the edge of the canal overlooking the fishing boats. Great beer and chips, with a very obliging owner making sure we got English menus.
Back on the bus to town, and where to for tea. Main Street, live music, risotto, couple of glasses of red, dessert, what more could you want.
Tomorrow we take a night bus south to Rio Grande.
