Boy in a boat
We haven't written as we have been travelling and now are settled in Buzios. It seems ages ago that we were in Rio but it was only yesterday.
Rio is truly a beautiful city situated in rainforest and next to the sea. It has quite a few old colonial buildings and many sleek modern high rise walking down Atlantic avenue next to Copacabana beach was amazing we felt like excited kids singing the Average White Band song. We walked as far as Ipanema beach and then headed back for an afternoon tour of the city. First to see was Corcovado the site of the statue of Christ, the views of the city were outstanding from 2300 ft and all so clear on such a sunny day. Next we took a tour to the artists quarter and saw steps made of tiles from all over the world. Then the cathedral which is made of concrete with huge stained glass windows and seats 20000 people we wondered if it would ever be full. You wouldn't think that it could be so calm and peaceful inside. Finally we went by cable car to the top of sugarloaf mountain where we met an English couple

from Manchester who now live in Santiago. We saw the sun set over the city of Rio an awe inspiring site as the sun dipped below the hills. In the evening we went to a show, ultimate in cheese, it made X factor look professional ! There were some good acts like capoeira and a funky dancing guy in white and the tango dancers but the rest was just about costume, colourful yes but that was about all, the show in Buenos Aires was so much better. Exhausted we fell asleep at 1am.
