We unexpecdately decided to go to Rio de Janeiro flew from Florianopolis into Santos Dumont airport the aeroplane circled the airport before landing so you could see all the famous land marks as the plane landed.

Our hostel is situated 2 blocks away from Leblon beach. The hostel was actually a house, the owner Luiz was very friendly and helpful each morning he personally made our breakfast, he was very keen we tried the many different fruits from Brazil and each morning he gave us different fruits to try. He was also interested with a daily plans and gave us useful tips on travel, what best thing to do when we arrived at our destination he really was a benefit to our enjoyment in Rio.

The first days visit was to Leblon and Ipanema beach these are a little more laid back than Copacabana though they still have many beach volley ball courts set out where the bronzed and fit people were playing. There was not anyone in the sea we wondered why? However later on we decided to take a dip after seeing some childern go in, but the beach dropped steepy and you could feel a

strong current we stayed close to the beach edge, there were some surfers further out doing amazing stuff.

Visited Sugar Loaf Mountain first took a lovely walk/climbed up the first hill Morro da Urca 220 mts high instead of the cable car, tiny monkeys scampered from branch to tree branch, lots of different colourfull butterflies were everywhere. On reaching the first summit we enjoyed the views of the city. We took the cable car up to the final summit of Sugar Loaf Mountain Pâo de Acúcar 396 mts high with a 360 degree amazing views of the city.

The next day visited another famous land mark Corovado mountain the easiest way up is on the Corovado cog train which slowly chuggs up through the lush forest of the national park Tijuca on the journey up to the staute of Christo Redentor ( Christ the Redeemer) this huge statue is 30m Mts high and weighing 1000 metric tons. At the rear of the statue its feet, is a small chapel. The statue and views are stunning to say the least, however as it is a popular land mark it has lots of visitors and taking photographs is differcult you
