both on our boards at once Today(Sunday) is stand up paddle boarding. We got up around 7:30 and went down about 8:15 for breakfast. Well they don’t do breakfast here until 8:30 … hum… so I logged into the internet. That lasted all of about 3 minutes before it died. Oh well, I’ll get it later. Our guide, Gabrielle stopped by around 9. Off we went. I thought it was to a car, but no, we got to walk about 1.5 miles over cobblestone roads, up a hill, down a hill to where we were going. My knee definitely didn’t like it.
We waited about 30 minutes for others that were joining us and then he gave (me) a short lesson. Off I went on the board. Shelly got a good picture or too and then off the board I went. Off with my sun glasses but the guide found them in the water. Yea!!. Ok, now I’m wet and we do get some pictures of both of us. We all head off to the first stop (my gawd, we really can’t be paddling to there) but yes, we do. I stand up paddle board, knee paddle board but I make it to the first stop.
The guide said great we’re now 30 minutes into the 3 hours. I’m thinking, I’ll never make it. After a short break on the beach we head to the mangroves and he tells most people to knee paddle because if you fall in the groves you could be stabbed but my knees hurt. This is where I discovered sitting paddle board, works great!!!! Of course Shelly was just paddling ahead and never fell in. (But I tried hard to beat her on the final stretch and even cut her off so I could make it to the beach before her). But she still beat me.
After we got out of the mangroves I got up again and stood and made it to our next stop. We had a much longer break here then started back. I stood, fell, I stood fell, I kneed, I sat, I stood fell, then as I was getting back on and was sitting and getting ready to stand all of a sudden I did a backwards summersault, apparently perfect as everyone yelled “10” . Shelly laughed hard. J
I made it back but my arms are dead. Once on the beach
we met the massage dude from Milwaukee. He came here about 15 years ago, the first 7 of which he was an illegal but they have an amnesty every 10 years and got amnesty and his “residence” card. Now he does massages on the beach. Shelly went first for a 30 minute massage. I then got mine. He worked on the knee and then my lower back. That short massage was the best. I wish he could tell my massage guy back home a trick or two. We then ate at a local beach restaurant. The service was horrible. It took over 1 hour for the food. We should have just skipped it.
Back to the hotel and Shelly crashed. I read, napped, read, got internet finally but it’s really bad, then we went to find a teller machine. On the weekend all the machines are only in the super market. We finally found it and it wouldn’t take a card that didn’t have a pin so we are still running with only a miniscule amount of local currency. We will try a bank tomorrow. At least we weren’t like the guy in front of us at the ATM.
He was getting his money out when, yes, this seems to be a nightly occurrence, we lost electricity. Ok, no money, but we did get some water and a bottle of wine. Back into town and to the restaurant. So even though our guy at the hotel that speaks the best English messed up with our reservations, we were able to get a table. Dinner was grand. But, hold onto the wine glass because the electricity goes out every 10 minutes and its pitch dark. The waiters just freeze and we hang onto our wine glasses so we can sip in the dark.
So, my feet are burned oh well, we stopped at the pharmacy and I showed him my feet. The pharmacist showed me what I needed.
Work on the blog but with internet down, I can’t post. Internet and AC both die with the electricity.
Kayak tomorrow. Stay tuned.
