Hello!

Well, we survived the Pantanal tour, despite being eaten alive by an array of tropical insects, mozzies, and the delight of bed bugs for Liz.

We arrived in Campo Grande after a 15 hour bus, and were whisked away by the tour company for another 5 hours into the heart of the Pantanal. We had opted for the cheaper sleeping arrangements - hammocks! Suprisingly comfortable, except for the VERY cold first night. Early mornings as the sun rose, morning and afternoon activities of Safari (in our traveller´s opinion - not a patch on Namibia!), trekking and attempting to avoid swarms of wasps, piranha fishing in a swamp up to our waists in the water and later getting to eat our prey, horse back riding and boat rides. The weather has been pretty good, up until yesterday when we got our first lot of Brazilian rain. Good job we´re leaving!!

We got dropped off in what seemed like the middle of nowhere, but waited an hour or so for a bus to Corumba and arrived yesterday evening. Our hostel is very quiet, there were 2 canadian guys here last night who we went out for a few drinks with, but they have left today on a Pantanal tour leaving us the only ones here! It has a nice family feel to it though, and we are off out for a final Churrascaria before the Bolivian cuisine begins - we have heard some not so great tales of the quality of the food, but the prices are very cheap which will be a nice change from Brazilian costs! Corumba is in general fairly quiet, especially with today being a Sunday, so we will do a bit of Bolivia planning this evening to get our route sussed.

Lots of love. xxx

Makes you appreciate home!
Well, well. Hope you've been slapping on cream and repellant - could be fighting a losing battle in a place like that though! You must be saddle-sore, itchy and soaked.... Dad says you wouldn't enjoy it if it was all one beautiful sandy beach after another - it's all part of life's rich tapestry! Now entering the less-developed areas we think. Is it Santa Cruz next? That's where we think you're flying to, then it looks another long distance to La Paz. Santa Cruz looked quite nice though. We looked it up on Lonely Planet website and someone had posted a photo of a sloth crossing the road. I wouldn't have known what it was if they hadn't said. Warm and humid here this week - no mozzies yet though. We (Dad, Les and I) went to Whitacre and Shustoke Show on Saturday - first time we've been - and encountered falcons, cattle, ferrets and guinea pigs - so we too are having an animal experience. Have a safe flight and keep us posted. Mum xx
