Look Mum - Im in Bolivia !!!!
Hello all !! Well it has been a while since our last entry so we thought it high time that we updated you on our current whereabouts !! Well we arrived in Santa Cruz after a 12 hour train journey from Quijjaro (just over the border) - Bolivian trains are an experience but all in all it wasnt too bad !! Having spent a day coming to grips with the severe culture shock we had great fun - primarily as we went death sliding from the tops of trees in the Boivian forest (anyone going to Santa Cruz go to Lemoncita to the canopy place - it is fantastic fun !! ) We then visited Villa Tunari - a sleepy town in the Chapare region of the country - military checkpoints here are interesting to say the least - our personal belief is that it is always better to be polite to the nice men with shotguns and uziĀ“s while they are searching through your bags for your stash of cocaine !!
So onto La Paz after returning to Santa Cruz (for reasons we wont go into) - a 17 hour bus journey through the mountains - my mother says that this entire trip is an experience and to some degree she is correct but mum, we can do without 17 hour cockroach infested buses that dont have a bathroom !! We did eventually reach La Paz (having stopped for a pee at 3000 feet - bloody nippy i can tell you) and it is a beautiful city stuck in the canyon between bloody huge mountains - we have even managed to laugh about the cockroaches. The only problem with being at 3660m above sea level is the altitude sickness and while Dan seems to have got off easily , Gina is struggling a bit. Having said that we have been out and about exploring and the city is basically one huge market - you can buy anything you want. Anyways guys thats all for now - theres Coca leaf tea to be drunk and we are catching the 7:45 am bus to Copacabana to spend Christmas on the shores of Lake Titicaca !! Its not a bad life !!
