Tupiza, Bolivia

We crossed into Bolivia on a cramped overnight bus from Salta, Argentina and we immediately felt the altitude of 3400m when we started walking.
We had our first train journey in South America to Tupiza in the first class carriage from Villazon. Tupiza is made famous by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - they were eventually caught/killed in a nearby village.
We started our tour into the Southwest of Bolivia and the Saltpans from Tupiza. This was a superb 4 day 4WD tour which took us onto the southern altiplano and immense saltpans (Salar de Uyuni) with overnight stops in local villages at altitudes of greater than 4000m. We had great fun playing with the camera on the saltpans.
