Dino Park
at the cement factory in Sucre La Paz to Sucre
It was time to be moving on from La Paz so we had booked a flight to Sucre as we were advised that the roads were dangerous both in terms of road safety and robberies that took place. Sucre is the capital of Bolivia and during our time in Bolivia there had been some serious protests and some people were telling us not to travel to Sucre as this was where most of the rioting was. However, we had to get to Sucre in order to get to Santa Cruz where we already had a nice hotel booked for christmas. Sucre is known as the White City as all of the buildings are obviously white! It was a very pretty place and it had very grand cathedral and plaza in front of it. We knew that there wasn't going to be an awful lot to do here so we decided to do the tourist attraction of the city and visit the site where they found the worlds largest number of dinosaur footprints. Apparently they were found on the land of a cement factory. It said in the book that you would take the 'Dino Truck' which
sounded fun, maybe something cool that you might get in Jurassic Park, this was not the case. It was a rickety old truck that had two claws on the roof to make it the 'Dino Truck'! The park with the dino tracks was a bit dubious but it was something to do for an afternoon. We also visited a museum of the history of Bolivia which was quite fascinating, there was a room with portraits of every Bolivian president. Always good to soak up that type of info incase the questions come up on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire!
Sucre to Santa Cruz
So after a short 30 minute flight we arrived in Santa Cruz and it was very hot! I was looking forward to some sun and some heat as it just rained when we were in La Paz and it was cold. Our plan was to base ourselves in Santa Cruz over Christmas because we had booked our flights to Paraguay while we were in Peru. The centre of Santa Cruz was very busy and quite modern, some books describe it as a miniature USA. It was a bit like that as there was big
SUVs and there was Abercrombie and Fitch everywhere. We had booked ourselves into a nice hotel over christmas but this was out of town so we had a few days in the centre staying in Hotel Bolivia and it was fine, a 2 minute walk into town. There really wasn't much to do though so we just sat in the plaza reading our books and watching the world go by for a few days. It did get quite boring but because it was 2 days before christmas I think we were also a little homesick missing all the good things happening back home. After a couple of days of boredom in a very hot and sticky town we moved to our luxurious hotel for christmas. It was amazing, there was a cocktail bar and a swimming pool so I was sorted for the next few days.
