Uyuni, Bolivia 4.20pm
Thanks for all of your comments and congratulations- we have just been able to read them.
Welcome Paul and all to our blog - thanks for reading.

We have spent the last few days crossing Bolivia by 4WD so have not had a chance to add an entry.

Since leaving Buenos Aires we took a flight to Salta in the north of Argentina where we saw a soccer
game between Argentina under 20s v Boliva under 20s. Good night out (there was an upset though,
boliva won!)

The following day we took a bus to Cafayete where we saw some awesome rock formations not
unlike the grand canyon. We visited two wineries - and enjoyed the local malbec- they even make icecream out of it!

On day three of our organised tour we took an early morning bus to San Pedro de Atacama the dryest place on earth - they have a total of 4 hours rainfall per year - and we though we had a drought. We finished the day with some night drinks around the bonfire.

Sandboarding was the order of the following day - in the middle of a desert, at altitude, with no lifts up -
not quite as easy as on snow! THat evening we visited the valley de la luna and saw the sun set and the
moon rise over moon like rock formations- the local brew - lemon pisco made the wait more pleasant.

Days 5-7~ We caught a bus to the Bolivian boarder and then boarded 4WD to start our Bolivian crossing. We ascended 3000metres with the highest point being 5000m. A mild headache was par for the course but we fared much better than some of the others that had quite severe altitude sickness.

During these days we visited hot springs, geisers, volanoes, and lots and lots of desert!
We stayed in tiny villages some with only two families and had a great time. The food has been great (as long as you are not too fussy) one of the highlights was playing a game of soccer against the locals at 3800m.... the result was not important - though Adam scored our only goal.

Today we travelled across the famous Bolivian salt plains. 12000sq km of nothing but pure white salt except for an occassional ex-island. A millenia ago this area was an inland sea and now the residual salt is mined for commercial sale.

We will be in Bolivia for about another week - and hope to poast an update soon.
Best wishes to all. A and C
