After lake Titicaca we had some serious bum-blistering travelling ahead of us with a day bus to La Paz (4 hours) - night bus to Potosi (11 hours) - day bus to Uyuni (8 hours while being shaken at between 2-20 Hertz all the way.... This I found truly amazing and it made me want to become a Geologist. This whole inland sea (now 4000+ metres above normal sea level) was rife with coral at some point during its history. Due to the dry nature of the environment following the drying up of the sea the coral outcrops have remained largely intact. On our journey out of the salar I then could follow coral features, especially the ancient shoreline, all the way out of the Salar.... fascinating!

They feed on the crustacea and algaes that inhabit them.

We arrived here at 5am just as the sun was rising... surreal!

A lot of the time it was so cold that San's camera stopped working...
