Another Courtyard Lunch
Behind the walled streets are surprising finds... like this courtyard What to say about Copacabana.... Have no idea what Barry Manilow was thinking, but music and fashion are not the passion in this town. It appears that their is another Copacabana in Brazil. Judging from the photos (massive city with long white sandy beaches) it might be the place Barry´s singing about. At anyrate, this Copacabana is a nice change from the hustle and bustle of La Paz and is the jumping off point for Isla del Sol, the birthplace of the sun in Inca mythology.
With a day to kill in town, we wondered around to take in the sights. This included Benediciones de Movilidades, or the blessing of automobiles. It isn´t the first time we´ve seen cars decorated with flowers, streamers, and little figures of a bleeding and suffering Jesus (sometimes the details a bit too much), but we were always a bit unsure and just assumed a wedding or funeral was taking place. WRONG! From apperances, it seems that the older your vehicle the more likely it needs to be ´blessed´. This all seems to make sense with Bolivia laying claim to the ´worlds most dangerous road.´

From the Cathedral
From with in the courtyard of the town Cathedral with a view of Cerro Calvario. the cathedral, the only other thing worth doing was a small hike. We hiked up Cerro Calvario, which is at 3966 m. It is only 400 metres above town, but climbing still takes the breath out of you at this height. From here we looked out across Lago Titicaca (9000 sq km) towards Isla del Sol and took in the sunset.
