We arrived in Buenos Aires on the 12th July and after booking in to a hostel we proceded to have a walk round the city, immediately enjoying the vibe of the place. There was lots of busking going on by indivituals and bands with a variety of music being played including Jazz, Scar, reggae and Tango. That night we went out to a steak house and had our first Agentinian steak, which was as good as people say, just a big hunk of awesome meat! We proceded to visit the same place five times with one of the nights going with a few people we met and getting around 5 litre bottles of beer and a couple of small jugs of house wine for free, awesome!
On the Sunday we checked out the markets of San Telmo which were huge, taking up countless numbers of different streets selling all sorts of things including clothing, lots of arts and crafts, souvenirs, food, jewelery etc.. On the same day me and Barbs headed to Recoleta on a bus and checked out the cities famous cemetary, it was a massive place with some amazing and extremely expensive looking graves, some of which were
for whole familys and looked more like small houses rather than graves. The next few days all followed a similar pattern of visiting the cinema and going to a pretty cool arcade centre with all the old classics and a table tennis table! We did manage to fit in a few other activites besides that though you´ll be pleased to here! On monday nights there is a drum party in B.A called La Bomba de Tiempo which we went too. The band had around 10 people playing drums with the occasional introduction of brass instruments which made for a really cool sound. The atmosphere within the old warehouse type building was awesome and the place was absolutley ram packed with locals and tourists alike. We also did a tour of the city on bikes which was a good way to see more of B.A. We cycled around the south of the city, to the various different ports along the river and around areas like Boca, including cycling past Boca Juniors stadium and San Telmo all with differing types of architecture and culture. We visited the area of Palermo on one of the days a few stops away from where we
were on the tube. It seemed like a pretty cool area with lots of different gardens and lots of resturants and bars to check out.
After 5 days of looking around the city and taking things fairly easy we changed hostels and went to place called the Milhouse hostel which has a glowing reputation and has a real party atmosphere. Safe to say our last three nights in BA were spent partying, getting in at around 5 in the morning and sleeping during the day, great fun. On the Friday night we went to the club Maradona owns called Sunset, its a pretty impressive place with lots of different rooms with different music and different things going on in them.
After our final night of carnage in B.A and no sleep we caught a boat over to Colinia, Uraguay on the 20th July at 8 in the morning. The boat took around an hour and when we arrived we spent most of our first day in Uraguay sleeping. In the afternoon we walked around the town, went to a small market and took a few photo´s. The next morning we took a bus down to Montevideo, the capital
city and spent a day here, looking around the docks and the old and new areas of the city taking in all the culture and architecture on offer. The following day we returned back to B.A and jumped on a bus to Mendoza.
Mendoza is famous for its wine and winerys so the next few days followed a similar pattern to that of BA, i.e. drinking through the night and sleeping in the day. The city itself is really nice with one massive park with a lake in, lots of open areas and little gardens to walk around and pretty cool market areas. On one of the days we got up relatively early and did a 12 km winery tour on bikes around Maipu in Mendoza with a scottish guy called Greg. At the first winery we arrived too called Tempus Alba we did the classy thing and instead of doing actual tasting which was quite expensive we brought a bottle of there cheapest red wine and a glass of there most expensive wine, what an excellent choice (or so the lady serving us told us, she sounded sincere??!!!!). Three winerys later and a visit to an olive farm
by mistake the 12k cycle back was an interesting journey!!! The other winerys we went to were called Vina el cerno, fila di tomasso and bodega carinae where we bumped into the same group of northern guys who made the day that much more enjoyable due to there drunken antics.
After a pretty cool bus journey through the Andes we got to our final destination in South America, Santiago in Chile. We only spent one night and one full day here and only really had time to walk around the city taking a few pics on the way. After 9 pretty amazing weeks in South America we are heading to New Zealand for a year to work and travel around a little bit. Take care all!!!!
p.s. Some of the photo´s are a bit shady as we were using a disposabe camera for most of the time in Buenos Aires!!
