A glacier is just a big ice cube.....a really big ice cube. So big, in fact, that until you´ve actually seen one, they are impossible to comprehend. The Perito Moreno is 20 stories high. That´s very tall indeed. When 20 stories of ice come crashing down in front of you, it really is quite something.
We arrived at the glacier and viewed from a few different lookout points before hopping on a boat and heading on to the glacier itself. After donning our crampons, we head out on the glacier. Walking on ice requires a certain nack. I reckon Herman Munster would be pretty good at it as it´s all about feet up-feet down. No ankle flex, just small laborious strides making sure your ice studs get as much coverage as possible. We came across fantastic crevices and caves in the glacier. The colours of the ice are so dependant on the light. Sometimes it can appear as white as snow; others it can be an incredible translucent ocean blue. Absolutely spectacular!
Anna decided simply walking on the ice was a bit mundane and decided that living a bit more dangerously was the order of the day. I suspect

It's impossible to scale anything at Perito Moreno. The size of the glacier is mind blowing. The face is up to 30 stories in places so I'm told.she wanted to understand just what "walking on thin ice" actually feels like. Oh well, with her right leg immersed in icy cold water up to her knee, she found out!
At the end of our ice trek, we enjoyed a touch of home in the form of a glass of Famous Grouse served with ice from the glacier. A true Kodak Moment!
Tomorrow we travel to Chile and Torres del Paine. Internet will be non-existant I imagine so I doubt we will be updating until we´re back in Argentina in a weeks time.
