The boat we were on. If you look closely, you can see people on the upper right.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Only two words we can come up with. We have been to a lot of places, but the sheer enormity and power of the falls is something that is overwhelming. We can totally understand why it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. We took the bus from Buenos Aries which turned out to be 17 hours overnight. The only reason it was bearable is that we had the Tutto Letto service which includes lie flat seats, wine, whiskey and champagne. We had the seats, wine and whiskey and will try the champagne on the trip to from Salta to Mendoza. When we arrived at Pt Iguassu, the hotel was only 600 yards from the station, so that made it pretty easy to get there. Pt. Iguassu is a welcome relief from the mad house of Buenos Aries. Leona and I are more small town people, and although some of the most interesting historical things are in large cities, some of our most enjoyable travels are in the small town/villages. It is really quiet in Pt Iguassu except for chickens crowing at sun up! The hotel we are staying at is a hotel for locals, so not much English

is spoken here, but with Leona’s help, finger pointing and a little hand waving, we are getting by. We got everything set up for the trip to the falls, and the next morning took the local bus to the park. We took the Grand Adventure power boat trip which included riding a 900 hp boat up the river and into the base of the falls. It was almost like being under water as the pounding of the water hit us. We got absolutely soaked but since it is about 90F, outside, we dried off in a short amount of time. Over the next 5 hours, we walked the Inferior Trail (the base of the falls), Superior trail (the top of falls) and went out to the Diablo falls. This guy is a beast! There are actually over 275 individual falls over 2.7 KM and are 50% higher than Niagara so it was a hell of lot of walking, but a delight on every stop. Another interesting thing about the park was the tremendous number of butterflies. There were swarms of them and they would constantly land on you. The Coatimundi were everywhere looking for a free handout and were kind

One of our favorites, the inner side of the wing is blue!
of like poor little feral cats. We will probably be spoiled for any waterfall we ever see in the future.

Next we fly to Salta which is at the foothills of the Andes and has a beautiful preserved colonial section and more Andean influence.
