Fall in Mendoza
Beautiful Plaza in Mendoza Well we almost got robbed today. Haha but seriously. We are sitting in the main Plaza here in Mendoza talking to a girl from Norway that we, but more randy, had met the night before and just happend to run into her again. They were sitting on one bench and I was sitting on one directly across about twenty feet away (we were throwing a ball back and forth). A man aproached Randy and the Norweigen handing our flyers, and at the same time a man came to me and asked for directions (he had a Chile hat on so I would know he was from out of town I guess haha). There was a third man behind Randy´s bench just standing. The man by Randy then proceeded to walk away and "accidentally" dropped his keys without hearing the loud cland when they hit the ground, probably in the hopes Randy or the girl would pick them up and come give it to him leaving their bags unattended. Then the man behind would grab then bad/purse and I being distracted might not have noticed. Unforuntatly for them they didnt do a good job and all three of us realized what was
Nice Bed!
Our one time on a 180 deg, beds on a bus. Pretty nice way to travel going on. Randy and the girl held onto their bags tightly and yelled after the man untill he finnaly came back to get his bags. Randy was even kind enough to bend over and pick up his keys for him but keeping his bag in grip all the while. I help the man get to the bus terminal even though he didnt take my adivice and walked in the wrong direction. After they all walked away, some local older men attending their handicrafts came to me and told me they were theives and that we should be careful. I then looked around and eventually found all three men sitting on a bench on the other end of the park just looking for potential targets. The real irony here is that their plan to rip us off, was directly dependant on us being nice to them and helping them with their keys or directions. Haha. And I wonder why I am so dismissive to some people most of the time. I mean why would they ask a tourist for directions! Haha. I guess they say most criminals are stupid, lucky for us. Because if they had done better we might not
Randy getting Advice
Ya he said I was scared, then why is he asking for help ;) have even noticed something had gone missing until it was too late. It is also very interesting to me becuase there and police everywhere in this city, and in this country in fact. Every corner, or every block if is a popular area. And the police always go in groups of two or three´s. So either very brave, or like I already said, stuipid criminals. Anyways.... onto the other things. Mendoza is beautiful, and I would think seeing it in their fall is one of the best times. The city itself is neat and clean (as far as big cities can get anyway) and they have some neat plaza´s and a nice pedestrian street. We went on a hiking trek with a group the other day which was fun. Did like a 7 meter, 14 meter and 40 meter rappel. Which was really exciting. It is really scarry being 120+ feet off the ground with only third world ropes and granite to stop your fall. So Mendoza is known for its wine which is funny because we have yet to even have a glass of the stuff since we got here three days ago. There is a lot to do
Crazy Norwegian!
Example of the drinking we don't partake in... here, meeting people, and outdoors things. Biking and hot springs seem to be big. Unfortunatly for us we leave tomorrow and the wineries will be closed becuase it is a holiday. So we bought a nice wine and might drink it later tonight of save it for another time. I am not upset at all about missing the wine here, I felt like we have man good use of our time and seen many things the city offeres. We will have time in Chile to see some wineries if we so wish. Our hostel help and All you can eat Asado (Argentinian BBQ kinda of thing) with some of the best meet I have had so far. The hostel invited three other hostels and over sold so it wasn´t all you can eat, but I think all 80 people had their fill. After the workers here cleared the tables and opened the bar and started to get everyone very drunk which was pretty funny. Pooring tequila into the open mouths of chico´s and chica´s bent backwards over the bar. Randy and I try and stay away from this kind of thing.... expessially when it is free. Hope you enjoy the
The group!
