We reached Buenos Aires, following a 15 hour bus journey. The bus was the most comfortable I have ever been on, with what were really couches rather than seats. The bus made a stop somewhere random for what turned out to be a meal stop. It seems that as part of the ticket , a meal at a kinda motorway service station was included, Andy was most impressed by this. It was a simple meal of fried chicken breast, and a risotto, not the average english Ginsters motorway service station affair. Anyway, another long confortable journey to BA and we made it here.
A short taxi ride took us to our hostel, 06Central, which is bang in the Microcenteral district of town which is the finanancial district, 06Centeral . Very noisy and busy, as you would expect with the hostel being in a traditional Argentine building. There is a central area, which is open to the elements with no roof and all the rooms run off this central area.
Buenos Aires is a very european feeling city, with elaborate buildings, a sense of Architecture which has been missing in all the other places we have been in South America,
Big Ben, Little Ben, Cardboard Box
Apparently this ode to Big Ben was built in honour of us British. parks and green spaces, and a general European vibe. With us being centrally located it is ideal as we can step out the door and we are bang in all the action and the interesting sites. We have spent a few days just walking around and seeing stuff, exploring the city and finding our way around.
On saturday (30 December) we had a picnic in the park with some of the Hospitality Club crew from Buenos Aires. The turnout was really good with about 15 or so people, and we spent the day swapping stories with people and getting to know some of the local BA folks.
In the eveining we got together with the Chilian gang and had few games of UNO. While playing and talking until early in the morning we watched the brasilian girls, which are also staying in our hostel, getting ready for a night out. They left to go out at 3.30am!!! But apparently this is normal ?!?!
Our new year was a crazy one. It started with the mission to organise drinks for about 12 people. We initially went with the whole Chilian gang (Barbara, Filipe, Oliver, Milibor and Jaimiko) but
A bookshop, which used to be a theatre
They retained pretty much all of the theatre in the bookshop, was pretty cool after it took us hours to leave the hostel we split and the 4 of us (Aura, Felipe, Andy and Josie) were left with the task. Trst me, to organise some south americans it's a challange in itself! After we finally found a shop and loaded a trolley full of booze they told us that it was too late to deliver the stuff to our hostel. The hostel was definately way too far to carry it all. We then asked if we could "borrow" a trolley but they didn't like that either. Last idea was to get a cab. Now, as we came close to the exit the security woman was too busy watching the booze area so we innocently rolled the whole thing out of the shop. So there we were, bang in the middle of Buenos Aires, imagine Leicester square in London, pushing a shopping trolley, which was too heavy to be on the pavement so the road had to do. We were good though, we even stopped at the traffic lights and therefore arrived safely at the hostel. Then we went to the obelisk, which is the "Nelson's column" of Buenos Aires and we watched a concert
Its raining paper
This is apparently a custom, at the end of the year, the office workers lob all their papers out of the window. All kinds of bills, peoples names, recepits. No concerns for Privacy here! where an orchestra played some argentinian music. After that we went back to the hostel to sample the best beers ever concidering there was sooo much effort involved in getting them. Shortly before 12 we stormed the roof of the hostel to start off some fireworks and crack the champage. To finish our eveining we made our way to the club "Pacha" which we did not go in as the queue was too long and they wanted a lot of money for entry, so we ended up on an open air rave. All that in a taxi with 5 people at the back. We didn't stay too long and made our way back to the hostel where the party came to an end around 7 am. The final part of amusement was provided by Filipe and his naughty mates who took adavantage of poor Filipe beeing drunk and in a deep snoring sleep. So there you go. This was our New Year in a "brief' summary. Now we have only 2 days left to finally see the city and then we are off to Lima on Thursday.
We are looking forward to Lima simply because it is supposed to
Its raining paper again

No concerns for Privacy here! be cooler than here. The average temperature seems to be around 35 and at night it is still 30. Showers provide relieve for about 5 minutes. But hey... We are in Buenos Aires!!! 😊
