GAME 1GAME 1GAME 1

Argentina vs. Ivory Coast. Result 2:1 good game, Messi was a bit nervous. But I mean, he's 18 and it's his first world cup!
World Cup fever has hit chilly Buenos Aires. At every street corner you can buy flags, jerseys, noise makers and any accessory in 'blanco y celeste' (white and baby-blue) Argentina's colours. During the games the city shuts down, silent and nothing moves, people huddle around televisions and radios, holding their breath or cursing the oppostion, it's for the most part very still and quiet; that is unless a gooooooooooooooooal is scored and hoots and hollers can be heard around the nation. (you should have seen the Argentina vs. Serbia y Montenegro game, 6 - 0 !!!) This is much better than watching edmonton playing in the stanley cup!

I am currently writing out my last paper about Roberto Arlt's Los Siete Locos (The Seven Madmen) and Lindsay as well so I can't write too much. But we wanted to put up some pictures from the last three games before Argentina plays Germany this friday. You never know what will happen, every taxista has his opinion about what the result will be, the tension is high, the pressure is on, we'll see how Messi, Palacio, Pato, Tevez, Crespo and the rest of our favorite players perform on Friday, 12:00 noon!

Saviola going for a goal!

Also, big thanks to Karina and Matt for the treats that arrived today. They filled our home with such delicious smells and aromas that reminded us of home. Fair trade Colombian coffee, Bounce sheets, Organic soaps, Soup mix and Chai teas. MUCHAS GRACIAS! Also to Grandma, Mike and Hannah for the lovely letters, photos and CD's that made it under our door safe and sound a few days ago. We love getting mail, but will be leaving our apartment at the end of July, so... you know, if you're going to send something, now is the time! jajaja

Anyway, lots going on and wrapping up, lots of dinners out, good byes and see ya laters, lots of really cold days we'd rather spend in bed, and great results on our exams & final papers. More about that and the Universidad de Belgrano's academic expectations next time.

Love you,

Muchos besos

Jenica

ps VAMOS, VAMOS, ARGENTINA!!!

Sol and Meriana who spent most of the game swearing at the other team, encouraging the goalie, and drinking mate!

Mari, Jenica and Julieta feeling a bit sorry for Serbia y Montenegro after the 4th or 5th goal, but what an exciting game nonetheless!

The Netherlands vs. Argentina 0:0 Apparently Argentina didn't play too well, but they didn't loose and had lots of goals from the other games, so off to the 'Octavos' they went. Here is Tevez, one of our favorites getting grabbed by Boulahrouz from the Dutch team.

GAME 4 ARG:MEX 2:1

For one of the most important games so far our usual game watching place wasn't available (mery was at work) and so we went to Isabel's. An american girl from school, we ate hummus, guacamole and cheered along with 7 americans and one argentine guy for Argentina. The results were great, 2:1 in overtime!

One would think Argentina had won the world cup. People gathered at the Obelisco and partied the night away after the game against Mexico!

Let's make a deal
I think that we should make a pact that if Argentina makes it to the world cup tus amigos y nuestros amigos should combine forces and form an all powerful alliance. Sort of like the allied forces during WWII, except with less espionage and killing and more mate and quilmes.
