But at Least It Was Cheap

In booking hotels for our last night I must've changed hotels ten times in my year of planning. I wanted something cheap and near the airport. Everytime I searched Booking.com I found something even cheaper. FWith less than two weeks before departure I stumbled on this ultra-budget hotel with the very reasonable rate of $55 per night per room. I ignored the many unfavorable reviews. It turned out to be adequate but somewhat depressing. Very cramped and kind of dingy. Not dirty or too loud which was remarkable considering all the backpack-type hippies sitting in the lobbies. I'm not sure why, but this was the last photo any of us took on the trip. Dinner that night was interesting: while driving all over Roissy and other suburbs we blundered past another La Pataterie restaurant. We all thoroughly enjoyed the previous night's dinner at the same chain restaurant outside Moresville, La Pataterie Châteaudun, so we eagerly returned to our car and giving up our precious free parking space at the front of the hotel, we returned northward. As darkness fell we found the restaurant, parked in front at the totally empty lot and discovered that once again, they didn't open until 7 pm. With nothing else to do we sat in the car for close to an hour getting excited whenever any other cars came into the lot. At ten to seven someone finally unlocked the front door to walk in. We arrived an hour before the help even started showing up! A few more black-clad teenagers meandered in and at one minute before seven the lights went on inside. We waited a few more minutes until some other patrons eventually pulled into the lot and walked in. Needless to say, the place looked very similar to the other potato joint but we didn't mind. This time we all got baked potatoes, a few beers and Cassie and I enjoyed dessert. Since we took no pictures I don't recall what any of us had. It wasn't exactly cheap and the final bill was close to what we paid for our hotel that night. After dinner, we spent hours packing and unpacking and repacking trying to get all our souvenirs into our bags. I truly feared we'd have to pay for excess baggage, but somehow we spread out all the heavier items, put a few in our carry-ons and the next day sailed swiftly through check-in. The perfect ending to a great trip for a sexy sextagenerian. Thank you family for letting me finally do this tour.
Day Twelve - Getting Bigger and Grander as the End Approaches

January 1st 2013
By now I was losing track of time on this, one of our longest, Christmas vacation trips. I certainly had no desire to go home, but I began the day thinking we still had plenty of time to do some more sightseeing and shopping. I was forgetting that once again our activities would be significantly curtailed by the day being a holiday. One positive about it being New Years Day was the fact that the h ... read more
