From Melbourne I flew to Cairns in the far northeast corner of Oz and the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Into the tropics. The heat and humidity reminded me of Florida. I stayed in a wonderful hostel, Tropic Days. Nice rooms around a quiet courtyard with a pool and hammocks hanging under the palm trees (and free wifi and friendly people!)…..pretty much paradise.
