Gate into Buchenwald
Buchenwald was a large concentration camp from the mid 1930s until its liberation on April 11, 1945 by American forces advancing through central Germany. Even though it ws not made to be a "death camp" thousands did die of disease, malnutrition or the harsh treatment of the SS who guarded them.
The message on the main gate translates into "To Each His Own"
