Greyfriars Bobby

After leaving the Haymarket we made our away from the Royal Mile and up yet another incline to Greyfriars Church. At the entrance to the church graveyard sits this phoney tombstone dedicated to the memory of Greyfriars Bobby, a dog. It seems there is a famous children's book that I never heard of that tells the story of a loyal dog that spent nearly its entire life hovering over the gravesite of his master who was buried in this same cemetery. When the dog died he was actually buried outside the churchgrounds but fans of the book and dog had this tombstone erected. Note that the dog still gets Christmas presents left at his memorial. I must've been a bad dad because I never read this depressing story to my kids.

Flying over to Scotland was a breeze. Actually there was a definite lack of a breeze as the Gulf Stream seemed to have disappeared.
