Only the women are "allowed" the build the houses. They use branches, mud, and cow dung. A woman is judged on how much her house leaks (or hpefully doesn't). There are small openings for air and light, an enclosure for young calves at night, and an indoor cooking fire, along place for utensils and clothes, and a bed made of cowhide . It is small and dark inside...

As part of our safari trip, we had the opportunity to visit a Maasai village and go on a nature walk with some Maasai men.
