We were surprised by Wanaka! Not only because Wanaka-Fest was taking place (their annual street party with carnival floats, market stalls and all sorts of festivities which sees Wanakians pouring out onto the streets to play) but also because no one had really mentioned how gob-smackingly beautiful Wanaka is.
