Library of Celsus at Ephesus

This must have been a truly imposing structure 2000 years ago. From in front, it appeared to have 4 storeys. Our guide told us that the technique of writing books on animal skins was developed here, after Egypt refused to sell the library any more papyrus out of jealousy for its fame.
