Uphill was not easy

Notice the 80 foot long canoe carved from tree trunks. The outsides were sanded smooth and any cracks or spots which could potentially leak were filled with pitch. Notice the sections in the canoe for storing supplies. Also notice the moccasins on their feet and the cactus on the banks. You have to respect these people. Nothing could be allowed to get in the way of reaching their goal - the Pacific Ocean.
