Puerto Montt has a face only a mother could love. It's a run down port town for cargo in transit. One local that we met was incredulous that there would be any tourists there and he had a point. However, the southerners are friendly. Strangers enquire who you are and where you're going and shake you by the hand. It's small things like that make travelling great.
