An early departure and an 8 hour flight later Claire, Mark (Claire's boyfriend) and I (the 3rd wheel) arrived in Sanford, Florida - to a sweltering heat of about 30C. We learnt straight away not to be nice to customs as obviously a friendly kiwi smile and hello automatically qualifies you to be declined entrance to the USA until you have had your luggage scanned.
