Grain
I normally just say 'fields of grain' to be safe! :) Why was it awkward staying with the nuns? I had never heard of Saint Erkembode and I'm fascinated by people leaving shoes as an offering.

We had very different reasons for being there
We were several guests staying at the guesthouse. Some were hiking the Via Francigena, like us, some were there to get away from daily life for a while, some were there for other reasons. However, I believe that most people who stayed in the monastery felt some kind of connection with the monastic life. I don't feel that connection. I felt that I didn't belong there. /Ake
