And here are pictures from Wednesday, January 7th. Our morning walk this day took us out into the rural area in a search for that fort we had read about. Saw lots of the countryside before stumbling upon the fort a lot nearer the town than we had thought. Then we all went back to Blue beach where we tried snorkeling and swimming.

On our third morning, Lee and I set out on foot to find this fort. We wandered through neighborhoods, thinking we were totally lost, when all of a sudden, there it was!

While the outer walls are very obviously original, the main structures inside, though still 90% original, have been restored and house a neat museum.

The fort was originally built in 1845 but never fired a shot in anger. It was used by both the Spanish and the US as a jail. Abandoned in 1940, it was restored in the early 90's.

Since the fort sits high on a hill, there are wonderful views of the ocean and the city below.

This arch in the stone wall was interesting.

There were various entry points to this beach with maybe one or two parking spaces; it was not crowded when we were there.

No matter which beach we visit, Maggie and her dad have to dig in the sand!
