So, we've been here for some time.
Much longer than expected.
Although I'm in serious need of a long, white sand beach, the locals that we've met have made our time here incredibly enjoyable.
We met Ricardo and Marjeta our first week here at the local swimming hole and have been spending time with them ever since. They are kind, generous, fun-loving people who live in absolute paradise! If I ever move ashore again, this is the kinda digs I wanna have! 😉 They invited us for dinner and a bonfire. Great food, friends, and a rockin' fire. Nice job, Ricardo!
Also, local bar owner, Janso and his wife Anna have been spectacular hosts within this small community. They run the "cruiser's" bar, "Sal Pa Dentro" and make sure to help out all the cruisers in the harbour. Anything we need, we come to ask Janso first. He's our man!
With all the help he's provided to us, it was only right that we helped him build a new dock outside his restaurant! Take a look at the pictures of the work party. 😉
More pics of the swimming hole too. 😊
We had a farewell lunch on Inspiration
with Craig and Christa from Simunye. There is finally a break in the trade winds and we are getting a window to move east. Many boats in the harbour have been waiting for this break. That means mass exodus over the next two days!
March 16th, 2015 - 20 days in Salinas, Puerto Rico
Hello all,
We've been in Salinas, PR for an unexpected TWENTY DAYS! 😉 Although, this suits our usual slow pace, it certainly wasn't our intention this time around. We had invited Steve to join us for three weeks to get us from the Turks to the Virgins and we were only part way there! We had GREAT weather and wind for the first part of the trip. Actually, we had perfect conditions to get us all the way to Salinas. And then the Easterly trade winds kicked in and there has been no break in the weather since. Don't get me wrong....it's warm, sunny and gorgeous everyday. It's just too windy for us to comfortably move east. We would have the wind blowing on our nose and we'd be pounding into the waves. That doesn't appeal to me, and I don't think the guys were overly keen on the beating either.
Steve ended up extending his stay with us. He moved his flight back by two weeks in hopes that the wind would calm down enough to give us an opportunity to make it to the Virgins as planned. But, plans never do quite work out, do they? Here we are, still, and unfortunately Steve is flying out tomorrow. Can you believe that coincides with a break in the weather? Simunye left yesterday and we will leave tomorrow. It's a mass exodus!
For being "stuck" here we sure did make some great friends and have a ton of fun! 😉
Next stop? Viequez, Culebra....then eventually the Virgins! 😉
