Old blond man
Sitting on his braid. April 9
Another lovely sea day. Dinner last night was interesting. The Matre de came over to be sure all was well with me. It’s like Cheers where everybody knows my name. All in response to my critique on the ship web site. Dinner was good. They had a chilled soup on the menu but it wasn’t very good. They used to be so delicious. This one was watermelon with a ton of salt.
After dinner I went to the casino but the cash game was a no go. The Rolling Stone Rock Room was overflowing with not a seat to be had. No obvious option but to enjoy an early night.
This morning I played in the poker tournament again. Unlike yesterday when I came in five out of six, today I was number two and in the money. It’s good to be able to play again. Maybe there will be a cash game tonight. Now it’s time for an afternoon siesta. Had pork adobe for lunch and it was pretty tasty. Haven’t checked out the dinner menu yet. So these are my sea days. Sleep, read, eat, chat with my fellow cruisers, play a little poker, and, I hope, get to listen to some good rock ‘n roll.

Wasn’t hungry last night and the menu didn’t appeal so I had some fruit and waited to see if we would have a cash game. Eventually we had five players. Same s——y cards. But I stayed until the end losing what I had won in the tournament. The game broke up and I realized that it was 11:30 and we lost another hour.

Played in the tournament but was out early. If you don’t get the cards there isn’t much you can do. The sea air must be why all I want to do is nap. Last night they chilled soup was banana with vanilla ice cream with a bit of rum. Not bad at all. Early night.
The sky is blue with clouds on the horizon. Missed todays tournament because…..I over slept. People watching on board is a treat. The ship is full, unusual for a trans-Atlantic. There are a few well-behaved children on board. Just saw a man who could have been Liberace’s brother. And I noticed a fellow who had a blond braid down to his ass. No kidding. Chatted with a young waiter from Luzon. Told him Uncle Joe was there in WWII. He said we saved them.
While as a stockholder I love seeing the ship full, as a passenger it does present challenges.tough to find a llounge at the pools or a table in the Lido for lunch.
At dinner tonight reality raised it’s ugly head. There was a medical emergency and we diverted toward an island while helicopters headed toward us. After a short time we stopped and almost immediately gathered underway. The helicopter landed by the sea view pool on deck nine and we spotted it flying away. I pray whoever it was has a full and speedy recovery.
Last night I shared the bottle of wine my TA sent with the table. Tonight, one of last nights diners sent over a glass of wine for me. Lovely gesture. Tonight I had escargot followed by escargot and a banana crisp. All were delicious and it was just enough food.
No live game so I headed to the Rock Room. The band was very good, playing country music while many in the audience did line dancing or the two step. I could have stayed for the second set but wiser head prevailed so I got my stinger to go and am settling in for a good nights sleep.
